Letters from Einstein: A Guide to Inner Peace

In 1933, a musician living in Munich—worried about the events unfolding around him and sinking deeper into despair under the growing oppression—wrote a letter to the famous scientist Albert Einstein, sharing his thoughts.
(Einstein, as much as possible, tried to personally reply to every letter he received, regardless of who sent it.)

In response, Einstein sent back the following reply.
(Despite being a world-famous scientist, he chose to sign the letter simply as “E.” rather than using his full name—imagine the level of pressure during that time.)

*”I am the person to whom you wrote via the Belgian Academy… Stop reading the newspapers. Find a few like-minded friends and read the unparalleled writers of the past—Kant, Goethe, Lessing—and foreign classics. Enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the nature around Munich. Constantly remind yourself, let’s say, that you are living among alien creatures on Mars—and stop paying so much attention to what these creatures are doing. Befriend a few animals. In this way, you will regain your joy, and nothing will be able to disturb your peace anymore.
Remember that those who are more sensitive and noble than others are always alone—and must be alone—but in return, they can enjoy the purity of their own world.

I greet you with friendship and shake your hand sincerely.
E.”*
