It is normal in today’s world to get lost. Our bodies are not designed for the modern world. Therefore, many of us just get lost in the routines or dragged in the wind.
to avoid all this depression, it is important to know yourself. It is a very old but important saying. Of course not easy to practice. With this post and the following posts, you will try to find your way.
In my depressive times, I was feeling stuck and drowning. I tried many things but the hardest was facing myself. The book called ‘Self-Discovery Journal’ written by Marilyn Gillian helped a lot. Even though it is said that it is for women and teens, I find some questions quite challenging to answer. Many things were even hard to confess to me. Now it will be your turn based on this book and you will see when you start to answer questions honestly, you will feel much better.
The book has questions for each day of the year, I will not write all of them but just some. I will not answer but tell a bit.
How well do I know myself? What is my biggest weakness?
The first question is hard. Our life pushes us away from ourselves. All our decisions are affected by the environment and we are too busy with our daily tasks. 8 hours of sleep, 8–10 hours of work. Rest is with other responsibilities and relaxing activities. In the end, no time left for thinking about ourselves.
Do you feel sometimes that time is flying and it was slower when you were a kid? It was because of curiosity and new knowledge. Besides, we were not busy with controlled tasks. so, what to do? I think we should spend some time for ourselves. to see where we are, to check what we have and what we want. Then it will be easier to find your way to know yourself.
The secondquestion is like a job interview question. What is my biggest Weakness? Either we cannot say it because everything is fine or we are messed up and everything falls apart. I prefer to approach this question in another way. What am I doing now, what do I want to do and what makes me keep away from my wishes? This variance is a weakness. Just make a long list of your life.
Hint: Wishes, have, can, cannot, plans… Write all down, order them according to priority and possibility and eliminate down to 5 maximum for each. Then you will see your weaknesses better.
