How to know yourself-17: People

People are strange when you’re a stranger.

Today I wanted to start with lyrics. The topic is people in our lives. I need to make an addition to the lyrics that they are not strange anymore when you have a strong connection!

Who is the one that is a vital part of your life? What makes this person special? How does the existence of this person improve your life? What is the meaning of this person for you? Can you name this person, is there a title? (like love, mom, dad, brother, sister, bestie…)

We are social animals that need reliable, supportive people around although we need sometimes to be alone or we get bored of people. If this social need is not met, regardless it is a choice or not, loneliness starts to choke us.

When I say that, I need to mention also one point that, these close people should not be our flush/trash that we pour out all thoughts and depression. Conversely, you should not be the same for the other person.

The most vital person… It means actually that a person when you see, you feel elated like you have a bright day after a long time; you feel safe like you felt in the arms of your parents when you were a kid; you feel warmness, and sincerity and never feel lonely.

When you find out the reason why this person so special for you is, you will also find some hints about yourself and your choices. Who am I? What am I? What do I mean for others? What do I feel and what do I need? How can this person fill the gap in me?

Identifying and naming helps you to prioritize your relationship and understand your needs. It reflects the values you hold. In this way, you can easily see what to share with this person, can cultivate a sense of gratitude, and can also find a way to build and strengthen your connection.

It is also good practice for your own personal growth to see the support and how it shapes your life. As I wrote before, it is a reflection of your values and your ideas. So, it makes your priorities, goals, and life purposes clear while you are feeling socially confident.

In the previous posts, I mentioned a few times that our character is shaped/influenced by the environment. While our surroundings have a huge impact on our personality, it is unavoidable to give meaning to people. However, do not forget this:

Life is a dynamic process involving many variables. Neither you nor others can really remain the same. The one existing today cannot be tomorrow.

While you are giving meaning to others, do not let anyone go ahead of your life. It may sound egoist. Do not forget that your personality on the stage is shaped and developed by your environment. Do not let the changes destroy you.
